What data are there to support our view of what drives engagement?

We have four sources of data which support our view of what causes people to become engaged.

1. The first is recent UKPLC research into the drivers of engagement of UK workers. The data tell us that there is a clear relationship between organisations reporting improving performance and ‘the right kind of engagement’.

2. The second source of data is the 2004 groundbreaking research John Smythe undertook while acting as a visiting fellow with McKinsey & Company called ‘Boot Camp or Commune’. (available on request)

3. The third is our everyday consulting which includes many research projects which inform our insights.

4. The fourth is John Smythe’s first book on engagement called “The CEO, Chief Engagement Officer; Turning Hierarchy Upside Down to Drive Performance.” He is currently writing a second book on the topic provisionally titled: “Ten Tell Tale Signs of the Engaged Organisation”.
