Global magic circle law firm

Engaging partners and associates in surprising ways

We have a long relationship with one of the magic circle law firms. Our work has included:

  • Working with their largest client-facing group to work through the succession from one group to the next by helping to facilitate discussions on vision and designing a programme to engage the wider global team.
  • Creating a shadow strategy process for associates to enable their ideas to be harnessed and included in firm strategy. This was in part a response to the need to retain associates by giving them a meaningful role (over and above client work).
  • Devising a strategy marketplace as a core part of the annual (600) partners meeting by which the dozen or so strands of strategy were brought to life in a vast almost Romanesque amphitheatre (in the dramatic setting of the circular ballroom of the Intercontinental in Paris) in ‘strategy stalls’. A small team devised the best way to engage groups of fellow partners for thirty-minute ‘Learn & Contribute’ sessions. The firm was at first a little sceptical but, in the words of the Managing Partner, ‘it made for probably the best partner meeting ever’. The secret lay in appealing to the competitive nature of lawyers! It illustrates the magic of a surprise approach and setting for such activities.
